Banning of booster seats
For years booster seats were what you used if your child had outgrown their car seat but were not quite tall enough for the standard belt. Tests and recent studies show that booster seats offer no protection whatsoever in a side impact.
Many retailers have stopped selling them because of safety fears and rightly so however there are places where you can still buy them. Car Seat technology has moved on significantly in the last 10 years meaning for not much more money you can purchase a group 2-3 car seat which will offer that level of protection and safety you expect.
Getting the message across to parents is difficult when it comes to booster seats. Many are on a budget and think that just because a multi-national retailer sells them that they must be safe. However, if you watch one of the many crash test videos floating around on the Internet you will understand why. You are putting your child’s life in danger.
The Government needs to step in and make it illegal for these companies to sell booster seats but how long will it take? When will they do it? Nobody yet knows but there are petitions going and it has been brought to their attention. When and if there is any news we shall let you know!
